Budgeting for Police Departments

PARTICIPANTS
This highly popular seminar is structured for all sworn and civilian police personnel who need or want to learn about the preparation and administration of a police budget. The participant will acquire a highly practical, hands-on experience in budgeting. Note: Laptops and calculators are useful (not required) in class, and each participant should bring a copy of their agency’s budget to the seminar.
CONTENTS
The agenda is divided into three, eight-hour modules as follows:
- Revenues and Budget Principles On day one the various funding sources and key budget principles will be presented in a dynamic, comprehensive, and understandable manner. The budget will be defined as a legal and political tool.
- Budget Preparation Day two is devoted to hands-on experience in preparing and presenting a police budget.
- Budget Designs and Funds Accounting Day three will continue the learning experience of day two; review methods for defending the budget; and, explain the steps needed to ensure its successful administration.
