Advanced Police Management
POST Certified: Plan III 24 Hours (CPT)
PARTICIPANTS
This seminar is uniquely designed for ALL police management personnel (sworn and civilian). Note: The contents and instructors in this seminar will change every two years and thus can be considered for repeat attendance. It is recommended that participants complete the 104-hour POST Certified Police Management Course prior to enrolling in this seminar.
CONTENTS
The agenda is divided into three, eight-hour modules as follows:
- Issues Management This program is conducted by a three-member panel of subject matter experts. The topics and issues will generated by the participants via a pre-seminar questionnaire. The issues not covered the first day will be carried forward into days two and three.
- Personnel Investigations and Issues This session will cover at minimum: updates in IA investigations; discipline and evidentiary hearings; discrimination/harassment complaints; negligent training, retention, and hiring; recent POBR cases (Govt. Code 3300); labor law issues; administration of public records; personnel matters relating to computer usage, and more.
- Police Media Relations This day explores the context of police press relations; the policies and laws governing police media relations; media access to information; strategies for dealing with the media; managing breaking news; and conducting news conferences.
