PARTICIPANTS
This highly relevant seminar is especially programmed to update criminal investigators in the performance of their work. The latest investigative techniques, trends, and technology will be thoroughly covered. Since the contents and instructors in this seminar will change every three years, the class can be considered for repeat attendance.
CONTENTS
The format is divided into two, four-hour and two, eight-hour modules as follows:
- Role of the Investigator and Asset Forfeiture This four-hour segment will focus on the changing role of the investigator and two of the four hours will concentrate specifically on asset forfeiture. The Asset Forfeiture section of the class will go into the methods for identifying assets, the pc for the seizure of the items, and the financial analysis that goes into the justification for forfeiture. This will help the investigator differentiate between narcotics seizures and forfeitures and forfeitures related to fraud cases utilizing the Aggravated White Collar Enhancement.
- Forensic Developments This four-hour module explores important advancements in crime scene services and the collection of physical evidence (fingerprint and DNA). Current CSI procedures and techniques will be demonstrated.
- Fourth Amendment Update This day is devoted to trends and changes in the field of warrantless searches and seizures; an in-depth analysis and interpretation of the Fourth Amendment; testifying and maintaining proper relationships with judges; and various exceptions to the good faith rule.
- Identity Theft/Computer Crime. This eight-hour block will review the latest trends in ID theft; computer intrusion, investigation and prosecution; use of digital evidence; juvenile hacking; e-commerce crime; and white collar crime.
